Months ahead of the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo’s official website hinted at the possibility of downloadable content (DLC) featuring the beloved hero, Link. It’s a common practice for Nintendo’s first-party games to offer Expansion Passes, but it seems that this Zelda installment will break from tradition. Eiji Aonuma, the game’s producer, shared this insight in an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, as reported by Go Nintendo.
But why won’t there be any DLC for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? According to Aonuma, the development team has already explored every aspect they desired within the rich universe they crafted. He elaborated, “There are no plans for additional content this time, but that’s because I believe I’ve exhausted all my creative ideas for this game world.”

Aonuma clarified that the decision to create a sequel to the previous game stemmed from their desire to introduce a fresh gameplay experience to the land of Hyrule. He said, “Our choice to create a sequel this time was driven by our belief that there was untapped potential for a new kind of gameplay in Hyrule. If that creative spark reignites in the future, we might revisit this world, either through another sequel or an entirely new game. I think it would bring a completely novel gaming experience, and I hope you’ll look forward to it.”
It’s worth noting that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild received additional content in the form of new challenges and the Champions’ Ballad expansion. As for the sequel, it remains uncertain whether new plans will emerge with time or if the developers will choose to focus on the next chapter of the Zelda saga.
