British Gas has announced an extension of its popular PeakSave Sundays initiative, offering households half-price electricity on Sundays throughout the winter months. The scheme, which has been well-received by customers, will run for an additional 14 weeks, allowing participants to avail a 50% discount on electricity usage between 11 am and 4 pm every Sunday until December 31. To participate in this money-saving opportunity, customers need to have a smart meter installed in their homes.
The savings accrued through this initiative will be reflected as “PeakSave Credit” on customers’ energy bills. Additionally, participants will receive a monthly summary detailing the amount saved. The underlying principle of the scheme is to reward households for avoiding the use of energy-intensive appliances, like ovens and washing machines, during peak hours.

Since its launch, over 250,000 customers have benefited from this initiative, receiving almost £1.3 million in total for shifting their energy consumption away from peak periods. This positive response has encouraged British Gas to extend the program, ensuring more households can enjoy the financial benefits.
Catherine O’Kelly, the Managing Director of British Gas Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative’s expansion. She highlighted the opportunities for customers to save on their energy bills while contributing to a greener grid, especially during the winter months when electricity usage typically increases. O’Kelly emphasized that the initiative not only helps customers save money but also supports the goal of creating a more sustainable energy grid.
In addition to PeakSave Sundays, British Gas customers will have the chance to participate in the broader ESO Demand Flexibility Service this winter. Last winter, British Gas customers collectively received over £1.8 million through this service, further emphasizing the company’s commitment to providing value to its customers.
Moreover, British Gas has reopened its Energy Support Fund for new applications. This fund offers grants to customers facing financial difficulties in paying their energy bills. Successful applicants, who must be British Gas customers, may receive grants of up to £1,500 to help alleviate their debts. For non-British Gas customers, there are alternative avenues for support, including the British Gas Energy Trust and Individuals Family Fund, both offering grants of up to £1,500. Applications for both funds can be submitted through the British Gas website.

This announcement follows a recent drop in energy bills across England, Wales, and Scotland, after the Ofgem price cap decreased from £2,074 a year to £1,923, providing further relief to households struggling with energy costs.
British Gas remains dedicated to supporting its customers, not only by providing affordable energy but also by offering innovative initiatives and financial assistance programs to ensure that households can manage their energy expenses effectively.
