Former Love Island contestant and campaigner against violence towards women, Georgia Harrison, 28, has revealed she is in serious discussions with Labour MPs about the possibility of running for an Essex constituency seat. The reality TV star, also known for her appearance on The Only Way Is Essex, has become an advocate for victims of online abuse after her ex-partner, Stephen Bear, was jailed earlier this year for posting intimate footage of her online.

In a recent interview with The Sun, Harrison stated that she had engaged in meaningful conversations with Labour representatives who encouraged her aspirations. “They told me to go away and think about it. They said if I was being serious about running for an MP, it is something they would support me with,” she said. Harrison believes her candidacy could serve as an inspiration to young girls, emphasizing the need for more ordinary individuals in the political sphere. “We need more normal people going into politics,” she added.

Harrison’s foray into political ambition comes after her active participation in campaigning against violence targeting women and girls. At the Labour Party conference in Liverpool earlier this month, she passionately advocated for prioritizing sexual assault victims in the justice system. Drawing from her personal experience, she highlighted the detrimental impact the lengthy legal process had on her career and mental health.

Addressing the issue of online abuse, Harrison urged for stringent measures against “massive online platforms” that host sexually explicit content without consent. Her advocacy for the removal of such content aligns with her own experience, where intimate footage was shared without her permission.
On a celebratory note, Harrison was recently honored with an activist award at the Glamour Women of the Year awards, recognizing her relentless efforts to raise awareness about revenge porn and online abuse. Her recognition stands as a testament to her dedication to creating a safer online environment for all.

As discussions about her potential candidacy continue, Harrison remains committed to her advocacy work, aiming to make a significant impact on the lives of victims and survivors of online abuse. Her transition from reality TV fame to political ambition underscores the power of individuals to effect change and highlights the importance of diverse voices in the political landscape.
