Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd recently made a prediction that the Seattle Seahawks would emerge victorious in the NFC West. This declaration was met with a mix of acceptance and reservation. Interestingly, he managed to navigate through that entire segment without stumbling into any glaring blunders or revealing a concerning lack of knowledge on the subject.
However, that streak of smooth analysis didn’t last long. Cowherd extended his praise towards the relatively youthful Seahawks, expressing his belief in their potential to clinch the division title and progress through multiple playoff rounds. Yet, a subsequent statement dented his credibility. He suggested that Geno Smith would not be seen raising the AFC Championship trophy in comparison to Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow. From a factual standpoint, this assertion holds true.
In all fairness, Cowherd’s misstep could be chalked up to an honest mistake. It’s worth noting that the Seahawks transitioned to the NFC conference a mere two decades ago, a detail that remains fresh in the minds of football enthusiasts. Competing in the AFC becomes quite the challenge when you’re no longer aligned with that particular conference.

Human fallibility being what it is, occasional errors are inevitable. Generally, I wouldn’t dedicate too much attention to Cowherd’s occasional blunders. However, when he does falter, the mistakes tend to be rather conspicuous. A case in point is his previous slip-up where he incorrectly assessed Rashaad Penny’s availability during a Seahawks-Chargers prediction. More recently, Cowherd declared that Dwayne Haskins was not a quarterback capable of securing a Super Bowl victory, even more than a year after Haskins’ departure.

With that said, there’s a glimmer of hope that Cowherd’s latest prediction about the Seahawks prevailing in the NFC West might turn out to be accurate. It’s worth noting that Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow won’t be raising the NFC trophy this season, a certain outcome considering they are AFC players. The prospect of the Seahawks claiming victory in the NFC West is one that many fans are holding onto.
